We study the Bianchi type-V cosmological model filled with perfect fluid in Barber\u27s second self-creation theory by assuming a special law of variation for Hubble\u27s parameter that yield a constant value of deceleration parameter. Some physical consequences of the model have been discussed in case of Zel\u27dovich fluid and radiation era.Proučavamo Bianchijev kozmološki model svemira tipa V ispunjenog perfektnom tekućinom u Barberovoj samotvornoj teoriji, pretpostavljajući poseban zakon o ovisnosti Hubbleovog parametra što daje stalnu vrijednost parametra usporavanja. Raspravljamo neke ishode modela za Zel’dovichevu tekućinu i za doba zračenja

On the possibility of precursors ofearthquakes in VLF range observed by DEMETER Satellite

    Get PDF
Very Low Frequency (VLF) disturbances in the ionospheric electric field observed by DEMETER satellite prior to three different earthquakes that occurred during the years 2008–2009 have been presented. The electromagnetic wave data has been analyzed for 5 few days before the earthquake with special attention to the variation in spectral characteristics and non-linear effects using the statistical and wavelet based techniques. Results indicate that the earthquake preparation process may disturb the ionospheric plasma and these disturbances can reach the non-linear stage leading to the strong variations in the electromagnetic field and plasma parameters. The 10 enhancement in statistical parameters shows the coherent structure and intermittent phenomenon which is the signature of turbulence. The characteristics features of VLF disturbances have further been studied using the wavelet and bispectral analysis tools which provide useful information on the plasma turbulence

In the present article, our purpose is to define and study conformal quasi hemi-slant submersions (cqhs submersions, in short) from Lorentzian para Sasakian manifolds onto Riemannian manifolds. Its geometric properties are also investigated. Lastly, we give a non-trivial example for this type of submersio

Mapping QTLs Controlling Flowering Time, Plant Height, Panicle length and Grain Mass in Pearl Millet [Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.]

Pearl millet is an important cereal of arid- and semi-arid regions, and can endure dry conditions but experiences drought stress during post-flowering growth. Exploiting the bold seeded semi-dwarf early flowering genotypes in pearl millet is a key breeding strategy to enhance yield and for adequate food in resource-poor zones. Genetic variation for agronomic traits of pearl millet inbreds can be used to dissect complex traits through QTL mapping. Quantitative trait locus (QTL) mapping for 50% flowering time, plant height, panicle length, and grain mass (self and open pollinated seeds) was performed in recombinant inbred line (RIL) population, ICMB 841-P3 ? 863B-P2. Correlations between traits were also performed and significantly negative association between plant height and TGM was observed. High heritabilities (>0.6) were recorded for all traits. A total of 50 QTLs that affected above traits were detected. Six putative QTLs for 50% flowering time were identified on five chromosomes. One QTL on LG3 were common between flowering time and plant height. Three major QTLs for panicle length, one each on LG1, LG2 and LG6B were detected. The major QTL for TGM_self on LG 6B had a partial R2 of 23.8% and 0.8 additive effects. The total phenotypic variance for 50% FT, TGM_self, and panicle length was 23.2% (LOD- 56.28), 22.3% (LOD- 5.96) and 59.4% (LOD- 52), respectively.A total of 21 digenic interactions were demonstrated for 50%FT (R2=18%-40%) and PL (R2publishersversionPeer reviewe

    Get PDF
In this paper, the design and development aspects of a high-angular resolution laser-threat Warner developed at the Laser Science & Technology Centre (LASTEC), Delhi are presented. It describes a high-angular resolution laser-threat warner capable of giving warning with a resolution of i 3" when it is exposed to laser radiation from visible and near-IR pulsed solid-state laser source. It has a field of view of 90' in the azimuth direction, whereas the elevation coverage is between -5" and + 25". It is capable of handling multiple types of laser threats covering wavelength from 400 nm to 1100 nm and has an operational range of 4 km for a Q-switched laser source energy (10 ns) of 10 mJ/pulse and output beam divergence of 1 mrad. The paper also describes its simulated evaluation process and field-testing which it has undergone. The result of field-testing confirms that it meets all its performance specifications mentioned above

Extensions of Natural Radioactivity to 4th-Type and of the Periodic Table to Super-heavy Nuclei: Contribution of Raj K Gupta to Cold Nuclear Phenomena

    Get PDF
We have studied here the contribution of Indian Scientists associated with Prof. Raj K. Gupta to cold nuclear phenomena during the last almost four decades, which led to the discovery of fourth kind of natural radioactivity (also known as Cluster Radioactivity, CR) and to the extension of periodic table to super heavy nuclei. It is exclusively pointed out how the Quantum Mechanical Fragmentation Theory (QMFT) advanced by Prof. Raj K. Gupta and Collaborators led to the discovery of unique phenomenon of CR along with the predictions leading to the synthesis of super heavy elements. We have also mentioned the development of dynamical theories based on QMFT, the Preformed Cluster Model(PCM) and the dynamical cluster-decay model (DCM), to study the ground and excited state decays of nuclei, respectively, by Gupta and Collaborators. It is matter of great honor and pride for us to bring out this study to enthuse the young researchers to come up with novel ideas and have inspiration from the scientific contributions of Prof. Raj K. Gupta who is coincidentally celebrating his platinum jubilee birthday anniversary this year

Sustainable Operations in Reverse Supply Chain of Shipbuilding Business - Benefits of Green Practices

    Get PDF
Sustainable operations have become extremely important for survival of present day shipbuilding business wherein triple bottom-line criteria – profit, planet and people, needs to be satisfied. This paper discusses about recapturing value at the end-of-life of a ship and reintroducing it to the value chain through reverse supply chain channel, thereby reducing environmental impact and also benefitting humans and ecology.  It also describes about the advantages of recycling ship vis-à-vis scrapping it in terms of environmental and human impact

An experiment involving three sowing methods and four integrated nutrient management practices was undertaken at Rajeev Gandhi South Campus, Banaras Hindu University in factorial randomized complete block design with three replications. The aim of the study was to assess the effects of sowing methods and integrated nutrients management practices on performance of pearl millet under agri-horti system. The sowing methods and integrated nutrient management practices significantly (P=0.05) influenced performance of pearl millet. Adoption of ridge and furrow sowing method recorded higher growth [plant height (147.7 cm), dry weight (72.7 g), and number of tillers plant-1 (2.0)], yield attributes [effective tillers hill-1 (1.77), panicle length (17.9 cm), grains panicle-1 (1508.3), grains weight panicle-1 (13.9), and test weight (9.23 g)], yields [ grain yield (1412 kg ha-1 ), and stover yield (3972 kg ha-1 )], and economics [net returns (Rs. 36371 ha-1 ), and B:C ratio (1.79) than broadcasting and raised bed. Application of 50% recommended dose of fertilizer + 50% poultry manure resulted higher growth [plant height (151.9 cm), dry weight (79.7 g), and number of tillers plant-1 (2.22)], yield attributes[effective tillers hill-1 (2.0), panicle length (18.8 cm), grains panicle-1 (1615.6), grains weight panicle-1 (14.5), and test weight (9.76 g)], yields [ grain yield (1552 kg ha-1 ), and stover yield (4360 kg ha-1 )] and economics [net returns (Rs. 38227 ha-1 ), and B:C ratio (1.77) than remaining integrated nutrient management practices. The combination of ridge and furrow and 50% recommended dose of fertilizer + 50% poultry manure was adjudged to be better for pearl millet performance

Systematics of alpha decay hindrance factors in doubly-even nuclei

    Get PDF
304-307In present work, we have calculated the hindrance factors of 182 even-even alpha emitters using Preston’s formulation of alpha decay probabilities and presented HFs systematics of 1- and 3- states in reflection asymmetric even-even quadruple-octupole deformed nuclides (A~216-230). The calculated HFs of both 1- and 3- states decrease with reduction in neutron number and this decrease is attributed to onset of intrinsic reflection asymmetry. There is a trend reversal for 1- states at N=132 (218Ra) and N=134 (220Rn), which might be a possible indication of departure from static octupole deformation. Similarly, HFs systematics is discussed for 224-230Th and 232-236U isotopic chains along with 2+ states observed in daughter nuclei in N=132-146 isotonic chains
